Compare the Leupold GX-3i2 Digital Golf Rangefinder to the GX-4i2

OK, we admit it: We’re tech junkies. We love trying out new products and gadgets, the bread and butter of PlayBetter.

While rangefinders may not necessarily have the flashiness of a GPS unit or swing launch monitor, they offer the technology and best accuracy necessary to elevate your golf game.

One of the best rangefinder brands on the market is Leupold. Priding itself on being spot-on accurate, Leupold has worked to perfect the golf optical rangefinder. Recently, it released its 3x-i2 and 4x-i2 models, improving upon its predecessors and making them legal for tournament play.

Both feature six-times magnification and resolution to within 1/10th of a yard against all backgrounds, colors and textures. They are created with Leupold’s optimal system. The company’s engineers use precision glass, top-notch coating technology and strong components to create durable and effective products.

While the 4x-i2 costs $100 more than the 3x-i2, it has many different features that will enhance your experience and serve as a great asset while training. So, which one is right for you? Let’s compare the two models to give you a better comparison.

Leupold GX-3i2 Digital Golf Rangefinder

3i2.1Want on-the-money measurements displayed on a crisp LCD screen? Well you’ve come to the right place with the GX-3i2. It is USGA 14-3 compliant, as if offers line-of-sight distance measurement only, making it legal for tournament play. When you gear up with the GX-3i2, here are the top features you’ll have at your fingertips.

PinHunter2 Technology

Have shaky or unsteady hands? Does that ever stop you from lining up your shot as well as you would like? Well, worry no more. The PinHunter2 technology steadily zeros in on your target quickly, and then the rangefinder stays locked on the flag. The device filters out background images and offers you three reticle options.

Leupold GX Prism Lock Technology

How do you know that you’re locked in to your target? You’ll hear it! When you’re lined up to the pin, your Leupold will let off an audible tone. Then, it will automatically display your distance.

Scan Mode

Hold down the power button on your device, and the display will scroll through and update you with precise line-of-site measurements, giving you multiple readings.

In addition, when you’re on the course, the 3X-i2 utilizes prism technology, so that when you scan past the flag stick, the device will beep and the display will freeze to ensure you of your accuracy.

Digitally Enhanced Accuracy

Get the most accurate read around. The rangefinder’s resolution goes up to 1/10th of a yard against all backgrounds and colors.

Fog Mode

Many rangefinders are known for being less reliable or accurate in not-sunny weather conditions. However, Leupold knows that golfers hit the links in all kinds of weather and under all different types of skies. That’s what the company’s rangefinders have a Fog Mode, which helps you cut through the weather while providing fast and accurate measurements. Time to get to the green!

Leupold GX-4i2 Digital Golf Rangefinder

4i2.1Like the 3i2, the Leupold GX-4i2 offers all of the features listed above, plus even more! When its yellow Smart Key faceplate is attached, the GX-4i2 has premium features activated, giving you even more information while on the course. If you want to use the device in a tournament, simply switch the yellow face plate with the chrome one, making it legal for play.

Club Selector

The GX-4i2 helps you determine which club to use based on your individual strengths! Once you enter your personal distance for your 8, 6 and 4 irons, you’ll receive recommendations for the optimal club to use. If you’re in a tournament, you can disable this feature using the chrome Smart Key faceplate to conform to USGA rules.

True Golf Range (TGR)

Sure, any rangefinder can give you the distance to your pin. Yes, the Leupolds are some of the most accurate on the market. But the GX-4i2 goes one step further, adjusting the distance based on the elevation of the course. So, if your target is uphill, the distance must be longer, and vice versa. Again, if you’re playing in a tournament, the chrome Smart Key faceplate can be used to disable this feature.

If you’re really looking to train and improve, we strongly suggest the GX-4i2. You can take the guessing out of your golf game, getting accurate readings and data that will take your game to the next level. This rangefinder is more than a device; it’s like a personal caddie!

However, if you never use the rangefinder for a casual day in the course, the GX-3i2 may be a better option for you, in addition to being a little cheaper.

Let’s Compare: Leupold GX-1i vs. Leupold GX-2i Golf Rangefinder

If you’re looking for one of the absolute best tools that you can have on the course, look no further than a golf rangefinder.

Maybe they’re not as flashy as some GPS units or other gadgets, but they are certainly the most accurate tools on the market. … And Leupold is one of the best brands available!

Leupold rangefinders are designed with golfers like you in mind, no matter how casually or seriously you golf. The devices are legal for tournament play, and although we know that they will greatly improve your game, they’re an affordable (and invaluable) device. Its GX line is in the business of improving golfers’ game.

The first two editions of the GX are the GX-1i and GX-2i. While similar, there are a few differences to consider while checking out the two options:

Leupold GX-1i Golf Rangefinder – $299.95

If you have a Leupold, you have guaranteed accuracy in your hands. The company’s tools feature military-grade precise optics, as it also produces optics for police officers, the United States Armed Forces, hunters and more.

leupold-gx-1iWhile the Leupold GX-1i is the most basic option in the GX line, it still comes equipped with all the necessary features in a great rangefinder plus much more.

Easy-to-Read LCD Display

The high-contrast display is easy to read even in harsh sunlight. Right on the screen of your GX-1i, you can see the range to your target and the battery life of your device.

PinHunter and Prism Lock

Lock into your pin up to 300 yards away! With its laser technology and advanced GX software, you can rest assured that you’re getting an extremely accurate reading.

Then, once you’ve located your pin, you’re locked in! You’ll know your measurement is exact, and you’re ready to go.

Optical System

Leupold engineers and manufacturers have produced a device with one of the best optic systems in the market. It produces low glare and promises accuracy, all while being one of the most durable products out there. Use the rangefinder for years, as it has scratch-resistant technology built in.

Digitally eNhanced Accuracy (DNA)

When you’re on the course, not only do you want accurate readings, but you also want quick ones! The readings are quick and accurate to within 0.5 yards.

Fog Mode

Unfortunately, not every day on the course turns out to be sunny and 75. However, that’s no problem for Leupold. While some rangefinders struggle in bad weather, Leupold does not compromise accuracy in the fog. The GX-1i cuts through the fog, guaranteeing that you are still getting accurate measurements right to the pin.

Scan Mode

Get multiple distance readings in one quick sweep. Once you’ve located the pin, however, the distance reader will freeze on your target, ensuring that you’re lining up a perfect shot each time.

Legal for Tournament Play

Since the device measures distance only, the GX-1i can be used in tournaments.

Leupold GX-2i Golf Rangefinder – $349.95

leupold-gx-2i-frontLike the GX-1i, the GX-2i is legal for tournament play with its chrome faceplate attached. It also has all of the same features as the 1i, listed above. However, when you take off the removable faceplate, your 2i is then equipped with some other great features that will completely transform your game, including:

True Golf Range – TGR

All rangefinders can tell you the distance to your target, but the GX-2i takes it one step further. Know EXACTLY how to line up your shot after figuring out the true range. The GX-21 adjusts for incline, decline, altitude, weather and more to give you the most accurate distance.

Club Selection

The GX-2i is like a personal caddie! Simply enter your distances for your 8, 6 and 4 irons and then, based your distances and the TGR, the Leupold GX-2i will help you pick the best club for your shot!

While both devices are extremely accurate, if you’re really serious about elevating your golf game, we strongly suggest the Leupold GX-2i. We hope you helped you pick the best unit for you. Still unsure of which unit is best for you? Compare below!

Six reasons to check out the Garmin Approach S6 Golf GPS Watch

Recently, we got in our first few shipments of the new Garmin Approach S6 Golf GPS Watch. We love Garmin products because we know that we’ll be able to provide golfers with reliable, accurate and top-of-the-line golf training aids.

And the Garmin S6 is no different. Coming in a sleek new package, we were excited to take out the new Garmin watch to test-drive.

More than 38,000 courses from around the world are available without any additional fees or downloads on this watch. And, like all Garmin GPS devices, the S6 will greatly improve golfers’ games. While it stands alone as an awesome golf gadget, it also syncs with Garmin Connect, a comprehensive app and online resource that allows you to keep your scores, track improvements, compare yourself to other golfers and much more.

Here are six reasons why you’ll love having a S6 wrapped around your wrist.

1. Accuracy

garmin s6Like its predecessors, the S6 provides precise distances to the front, back and middle of the green. In addition to showing the distances from where you’re standing, it will show you the distances to doglegs and layups. You can also create your own yardage points and position pins.

2. Battery life

Out golfing, the last thing that you want to have to do is worry about recharging your watch battery. We know how frustrating it is to have a GPS unit die on you in the middle of an outing.

Well, the S6 can keep up with you for a full weekend of golf. It can be used for up to 10 hours on full GPS mode and up to 20 weeks as a regular watch!

3. Touch screen

We can’t say enough about the next touch screen from the S6.

The full color is crisp, especially when under the bright sun. The CourseView button lets you view the entire layout of the hole – including the teebox, fairway and green – all in full color.

4. Swing metrics and blind shot assistance

garmin s6 fourThis watch will up your golf game. Enough said. But let’s elaborate.

The swing metrics feature on the S6 offers both SwingTempo and TempoTraining. As you swing, the watch will measure the relationship between your up- and downswing. Then, the TempoTraining will help improve your technique as it helps you develop your perfect golf swing ratio. Develop more consistency with the S6.

The watch also comes with blind shot assistance. Is there an obstacle hindering your view, or are you in a trap? No problem! The GPS watch gives you an arrow that points you in the right direction of the hole.

5. Sleek design

The new watch comes in two different color option – light and dark. Compared to past models, the S6 sits flatter against your wrist. It won’t feel bulky on your wrist, but you’ll have so many great features to improve your game.

6. Everyday watch

With its nice design and long battery life, this GPS watch can transition off the links to an everyday watch. It tells time, but also has a timer and odometer – both helpful tools for on and off the course!

Five reasons golfers will love the new Apple Watch

Yesterday, we were glued to the Apple keynote livestream. Yes, we’re excited for iOS 8 and new iPhones in our pockets, but we were absolutely thrilled for the new Apple Watch. Not only will it be an amazing gadget for any techie to have on hand, but we also believe it will also be an awesome tool for golfers.

Here are a few reasons we can’t wait to get an Apple Watch out on the golf course:

1. Apps on your wrist
Your favorite apps will be available right on your wrist. Whether it’s an app that pairs with a golf gadget such as a swing analyzer or an Apple app such as weather or an alarm, you’ll have all of the tools you need for a great day of golf right on your wrist.

See a storm in the distance while playing? Need to know exactly how far your shot was? You won’t have to fumble around your bag or pocket anymore looking for your phone. Your hands will be free, and an amazing app homepage will be available right on your wrist.

2. Fitness tracker
This is probably our favorite part of the Apple Watch announcement. The watch will serve as a full fitness tracker with its Activity App. It features three different “rings” that will help you get moving!

The Move ring shows how many calories you’ve burned, the Exercise ring shows how much activity you’ve done and the Stand ring shows you how often you’ve gotten up from sitting.

At PlayBetter.com, we’re about golf, but we’re also about fitness and a healthier lifestyle. This app will inspire you to get moving, (and hey, it’s a perfect excuse to get out there and golf, am I right?)

3. Workout App
Like I said, we’re about fitness and improving our overall health. This watch features a full Workout App that looks amazing. You can create goals, unlock achievements and set notifications for your workout.

It measures your time, distance, calories and pace for various cardio activities, such as running, walking, cycling and more!

The watch tracks your activity over time, so you can see improvements, all of your daily activity and so much more.

4. Syncs with your iPhone
apple-watch-iphoneWhen you have a notification, such as a text or a news notification, you’ll feel it right on your wrist. The new watch will pair perfectly with your iPhone.

Say you get an alert about the Masters on your wrist. You can continue to read more about the tournament on your phone.

5. … It’s on your wrist!
OK, this goes without saying. But we’re so excited about the possibilities of having such an amazing gadget available to us while our hands are kept free. Getting notifications, the time, weather, photos, top apps and SO much more right on your wrists will revolutionize your golf game and your tech game!

Is it 2015 yet?

Until then, check out the wide assortment of golf-specific GPS watches offered at PlayBetter.com.
