What does the slope feature do? Golf rangefinder features explained
Today’s golfers have so much technology at their disposal that it can sometimes get in the way of their performance.
Fumbling with gadgets, syncing with phones, and tapping screens is the last thing you or you playing partners want to deal with during a round. Sometimes, it’s best to keep it simple and today’s gear spotlight focuses on just that. The very easy to use (one button in fact) Bushnell v3 Laser Rangefinder Standard Edition and the v3 Slope Edition.
When planning your on course strategy, there is no tool more accurate than a laser rangefinder. There are a few necessary criteria for rangefinders accuracy, performance, value and design – and the Bushnell Golf Series meets and excels in all of those categories.
The Tour v3 Patriot Pack Laser Rangefinder from Bushnell Golf offers all of these features and much more! The v3 will help you approach your game with confidence. Its PinSeeker with JOLT Technology helps you hone in on your shot, and then vibrates to ensure you’re locked in.
Available in both a slope edition and standard version, the v3 rangefinder is a perfect gadget for both casual and serious golfers.
So, which one is for you? To answer that, we have to explain what the slope feature means. The most obvious difference between the slope and standard version is that the slope edition measures distance and elevation and is not legal for tournament play (or technically any round that counts towards a USGA handicap). The USGA Handicap system requires that a laser rangefinder measure only distance.
However, if you’re looking to improve your golf game, plan out distances during practice rounds or if you play casual rounds where handicap doesn’t matter, the Slope Edition is the rangefinder for you. We find a lot of caddies and coaches purchasing the slope enabled units for use in practice rounds and the purposes of plotting out yardage books.

Slope Measurement Feature
While all rangefinders will help you measure the distance to the pin, the slope edition takes it one step further by giving you elevation adjusted distances to the hole. Instead of just a straight line distance to a target it instantly calculates what the uphill or downhill position means in terms of yards/meters.
For example, when you measure your shot with a standard rangefinder, it will just give you a reading of the distance to the hole. On the other hand, the slope takes the distance that adds or subtracts from the reading based on the elevation change to that hole. The Tour v3 Slope Edition will show you both the PlaysLike distance and the line of sight distance.
The slope edition takes the guessing out of your golf game! You won’t have to try to eyeball or estimate the yardage differences caused by uphill or downhill shots.
Another benefit of the slope edition is that it can be used to map out courses. Knowing the elevation and slopes of a course will benefit you and help you accurately learn the course before ever teeing off.
Standard and slope editions
The standard version solely measures distance, so it’s legal for tournament play. Both the standard and slope versions are pinpoint accurate rangefinders that lock you into your target. Its revolutionary PinSeeker with JOLT Technology tool provides you with short vibrating bursts once you’re locked in. Once you’re locked in, you’ll feel it!
Both editions of the v3 feature 5x magnification, giving you a close view of your target, and are guaranteed accurate within one yard.
Another feature that makes the Bushnell Golf Tour v3 stand out is its light and compact design and water resistant housing. The lenses are recessed into the unit assuring that even your sloppiest playing partner will have a hard time smudging the optics and causing you added aggravation.
A great value, the rangefinder is an affordable yet extremely accurate option. Both of the v3’s come with a rubber protective skin that helps shield rain, weather, scratches and more. It also comes with a carrying case and a CR2 battery.
